Sizing & Tog Ratings:

The size chart is a general guideline only. Ensure baby's head can not easily pass through the neck opening. If it can, please delay the use of the Sleep Hugger until your baby meets this requirement.

Please note the length of the Sleep Huggers outlined in the chart above. These measurements are prior to shrinking. Shrinkage of 5-10% may occur upon washing and drying. This shrinkage has been accounted for in the size chart.

WARNING: Do not purchase a size for baby to 'grow into'. Although we understand the logic behind this, it may compromise baby's safety.

Sleep Huggers contents
Tog Shell Filler Lining
3.0 100% cotton polyester 100% cotton
1.0 100% cotton n/a 100% cotton flannel

Note: Health professionals recommend that sleep sacks be no warmer than 4 togs. Adult blankets/comforters usually range around 12 togs. Make sure to not add extra blankets when using a sleep sack.

Care Instructions:

Sleep Huggers can be machine washed in warm water and dried on a low heat setting. To prolong the life of your Sleep Hugger, we suggest you close the zipper prior to washing.

FAQ:

There are so many sleep sacks on the market. What do I need to check for to make sure the sleep sack I choose is safe?

According to medical professionals, a safe sleep sack is one that meets the following criteria:

  • a fitted neck opening to ensure baby can not slip inside

  • be sleeveless with large arm openings to allow for proper air circulation throughout the sleep sack

  • does not have a hood

  • rated at a maximum of 4 togs

Are Sleep Huggers® sleep sacks safe?

Yes. When used correctly, a Sleep Huggers® sleep sack is potentially the safest form of bedding for your baby. By replacing all loose bedding in your baby’s crib, a Sleep Hugger helps you create the safest environment in which your baby can sleep.

Sleep Huggers® sleep sacks:

  • are designed with a fitted neck opening

  • are sleeveless to allow for proper air circulation

  • do not have a hood

  • are available in a variety of togs, from 0.5-3.0 togs.

How does a Sleep Huggers® sleep sack work?

A Sleep Huggers® sleep sack works like a wearable blanket. Simply dress your baby in normal sleepwear appropriate for the conditions in their nursery and place them securely inside their Sleep Hugger. Zip the sleep sack closed and place your baby in his/her crib. There is no need for additional bedding.

If your baby feels too cold or warm, simply adjust the level of sleepwear worn. You can check this by placing your hand on the back of baby’s neck or on their tummy. Hands and feet are poor indicators of body warmth as baby’s circulation is often not fully developed yet at an early age.

WARNING - NEVER USE A SLEEP SACK OR BABY SLEEPING BAG WITH A COMFORTER OR A DUVET. DOING SO MAY CAUSE YOUR BABY TO OVERHEAT.

When can I start using a Sleep Huggers® sleep sack on my baby?

You can start using a Sleep Huggers® sleep sack once your baby reaches 10lbs, usually around the 2nd or 3rd month, or when they’ve outgrown being swaddled. A sleep sack is a great next step to swaddling as it gives your baby a similar sense of security yet with more mobility. It is, however, very important to make sure baby’s head can not easily slip through the fitted neck opening.

Do not purchase a sleep sack that your baby can “grow into”. If the sleep sack is too large for your baby they could easily slip down inside.

What should my baby wear when using a Sleep Huggers® sleep sack?

Dress your baby the same way you would if using traditional blankets. Anything from a diaper shirt in warmer months to long sleeved sleepers/pajamas in cooler months work well.  Layering/adjusting baby’s sleep wear is how you’ll be able to keep your baby comfortable while using a sleep sack.

My Sleep Huggers® sleep sack feels very lightweight? Will my baby be warm enough?

Yes. Health professionals recommend sleep sacks be made of cotton and be lightweight to keep baby from overheating. A sleep sack keeps your baby warm both top and bottom so they don’t need to be as heavy as a normal blanket. The wonderful thing about the Sleep Huggers® sleep sack is that, by simply adjusting what your baby wears for sleepwear, you can use the same Sleep Hugger for most of the year.

What are Sleep Huggers® sleep sacks made of?

All Sleep Huggers® are made of 100% cotton fabric. We love using cotton because it is gentle on baby’s skin and allows it to breathe. Cotton also keeps your baby from becoming hot and sweaty, which can happen when using a sleep sack made of fleece. Sleep Huggers® rated at 2.0 Tog and higher contain a naturally fire-retardant, naturally hypo-allergenic polyester filler to help keep baby warm.

We hope, with your support, that we’ll be able to make this work and continue to have our sleep sacks made in Canada.

Do you add any chemicals to make the Sleep Huggers® sleep sacks fire-retardant?

No. We do not add any chemicals to our sleep sacks. We do not believe that using chemicals so closely in contact with baby’s skin is a safe practice and consider this a risk not worth taking.

All Sleep Huggers® rated 2.0 Tog and higher have been designed with naturally fire-retardant polyester filler inside the layers of 100% cotton fabric.

It should go without saying, but KEEP AWAY FROM FIRE.

Why are Sleep Huggers® sleep sacks so long in length?

Our sleep sacks have been specifically designed for the age ranges outlined for each size. As all Sleep Huggers® are made of 100% cotton, they will shrink with washing which has also been accounted for in the sizing. A proper fit lies more in the design of the neck opening then in the length of the sleep sack. Remember, at this age your baby will grow faster than at any other time in their life. The longer length of the Sleep Huggers® sleep sack is one of the reasons why they are such good value. You won't have to replace the sleep sack every few months just because your baby is growing.

Will my child be able to walk around with the sleep sack on?

Yes, but Sleep Huggers® are not designed of use outside of a crib/bed. Your little one will have no problem standing, sitting or even walking around in their crib with their Sleep Huggers® on. The great thing about this is they can move about effortlessly yet when they’re ready to lie back down, they will still be covered and warm. A sleep Huggers® sleep sack also works well at keeping little ones from climbing out of their crib. A reassuring thought at 2am!!

What makes a Sleep Hugger sleep sack so good?

  • Sleep Huggers® sleep sacks are made to last. Long after the cheaper version has worn out or fallen apart the Sleep Hugger will still be keeping your little one cozy and warm while sleeping. Wash after wash, a Sleep Hugger will stand up to the most active of babies and then can be handed on down to the next child.

  • We support our local community. Sleep Huggers® sleep sacks are made in Canada by people earning a fair wage for their hard work.

  • Sleep Huggers® are machine washable and dryer safe. We're moms too. No fussy products will work for us. Who has the time???

  • Sleep Huggers® are designed specifically for the North American climate.

Why do babies sleep better in a Sleep Huggers® sleep sack?

Traditional blankets often end up at the back of the crib, causing baby's body temperature to fluctuate and them to become cold and wakeup. A Sleep Huggers® sleep sack ensures your little one remain safely covered and warm, and at a constant body temp, regardless of how much they wiggle around, helping them (and you) to sleep better.

Why is it so important that my baby receives a good night’s sleep?

Not only is sleep vital for both the proper growth and development of your baby, but it is also very important for mom’s recovery and general well being.
